Ainslie Murray

2024

Ainslie Murray is an interdisciplinary artist and Associate Professor in Architecture at UNSW Sydney, Australia. She has supervised and examined interdisciplinary creative PhDs across multiple institutions and has led the introduction of the new Practice-based PhD in the School of Built Environment at UNSW. Her creative research and the research of her current PhD cohort centres on forms of space-making that often escape attention, including ephemeral, minimal, immaterial and unlikely forms of architecture. Her work moves across methodologies and disciplines – her artworks explore the formation and inhabitation of architectural space in everyday life, and her texts include autoethnographic accounts of walking practice in volatile environments. Ainslie was awarded her PhD in Visual Arts in 2011 (Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney) and her internationally acclaimed installation, film and environmental works have been exhibited in Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, Italy, Japan, New Zealand and the UK.
